On Friday 10th August Worawa held a fundraising event at the Rivoli – the new Australian musical, The Sapphires was screened to an enthusiastic audience. Written by Tony Briggs, the movie is an adaptation of an extremely successful screenplay based on the experiences of his mother. Lois Peeler, the Executive Director of Worawa and aunt of Tony Briggs was one of the original members of the group, so the movie had a special significance for Worawa.
The evening was a huge success, raising over $6000 to support the programs at Worawa. The movie sold out and we were able to run a second session. Worawa students graciously gave up their tickets to the early session to enable additional people to see the movie.
The film was fantastic: loved by all who saw it; it made the audience laugh and made them cry.
If you haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, it is still showing nationally.
