Worawa Aboriginal College has an Emergency Management Plan (EMP) in place which provides a detailed plan of how Worawa Aboriginal College will prepare and respond to emergency situations.
Fire danger ratings and warnings are used in Victoria to provide clear direction on the safest options for preserving life. Schools identified as being at highest bushfire risk have been included on the Bushfire-At Risk Register (BARR) and will be closed on days determined by fire authorities to be Code Red. Our school has been identified as a school at the highest bushfire risk and is listed on the Bushfire-At Risk Register (BARR).
Following the issue of a Code Red warning by the CFA, we will evacuate the school to our identified off-site location. We will SMS a message to guardians as to the action and location of students and staff. The safest option when a Code Red day is declared may be to leave the College the night before, or early in the morning of the Code Red day. Once again, we will SMS a message to guardians as to the action and location of students and staff. No staff will be onsite on days when the school is closed due to the risk of fire.
Excursions and school camps will be cancelled if the area where the camp is taking place is at bush fire risk.
